In 2006, Candy Manufacturing Company suffered the
loss of its founder and president, Robert V. Hendershot,
who died at age 76 after a short illness.
Bob invented Candy’s first product, the Phase
Variator, in the 1960s. He devoted his next forty
years to building Candy Manufacturing Co., Inc.;
through his creativity he led innovation in industrial
timing controls, and through his character and personality
he developed great working relationships and friendships
inside the firm and with customers and suppliers.
Bob’s daughter, Sarah Hendershot, who was
Candy’s vice president prior to his death,
and who had worked directly with Bob for two years
on succession planning, is now president. His son,
Kennedy Hendershot, joined the family business as
vice president after working for fifteen years in
international finance, management, and IT. Bob had
travelled extensively in the past decade and during
this period he had a strong and effective general
management in place at Candy. In the interim period
after Bob’s death, Sarah and Kennedy strengthened
the Candy team through consultancy provided by former
employees and, with thanks to all, the unexpected
transition went smoothly.
We
all remain committed to the business and to Bob’s
management style, and our employees continue to
say that Candy is a great place to work.
